- Benedetto William (Ben) Mongiovi, 89, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, in The Legacy at North Augusta, where he had been a resident for the past several years.
Born June 7, 1927, in Newark, N.J., he was a son of Italian immigrants Phillipo Mongiovi and Filippina Fiorenza. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy in Cuba. He was employed as a butcher in New Jersey for 35 years before he and his wife retired to Virginia.
On Jan. 25, 1948, he married Ada Mae Hunnicutt of Barnardsville, N.C. She preceded him in death Sept. 4, 2012. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Bussiere; a son-in-law, Edward Bussiere; a sister; and six brothers. Surviving are two sons, Larry Mongiovi and wife, Helen, and Philip Mongiovi and wife, Lois, all of New Jersey; one sister, Mary Wachter of New Jersey; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 3, in Green Hill Cemetery, officiated by Mr. Doug Campbell.
Friends may pay respects at Bear Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, and may visit at other times at the home of his grandson, Greg Bussiere, 40 Buffalo Gap Highway, Churchville.
