- Lorraine B. (Bussiere) St. Pierre, 93, of Attleboro, MA, entered into Eternal rest with her loving family by her side on September 14, 2022. Born in Attleboro on January 29, 1929, Lorraine was the daughter of George E. & Melissa (Tatro) Bussiere. She was raised and educated in Attleboro schools, graduating from Attleboro High School in 1947. She was the beloved wife of the late Douglas H. St. Pierre, who died in April 2020, five weeks before their 71st wedding anniversary.
During high school, she worked as a soda fountain girl at J.J. Newberry's in downtown Attleboro as well as becoming one of many WWII civilian volunteers as an airplane spotter, otherwise known as "soldiers out of uniform". Upon graduating from Attleboro High School, Lorraine was employed with the L. G. Balfour Company and remained there for three years. From 1950-1968, Lorraine was devoted to raising her 7 children, eventually returning to the workforce as an employee of Robbins Company. Lorraine was then employed by the LaSalette Mark IV media center, until becoming a full-time employee at the Shrine Gift Store for 18 years, retiring in 1994.
A woman of faith, Lorraine was a member of St. John's church for many years, a CCD teacher, and a Brownie Troop Leader. She volunteered at the LaSalette Shrine, the Retreat Center, and the Mark IV media center for many years. She was an active member of the Attleboro Catholic Cursillo Movement from the mid1960s into the1970s. Transferring to St. Joseph's, then Holy Ghost/St. Vincent de Paul, she continued her volunteer work, helping with various fundraisers and holiday fairs. Over the past three years, Lorraine had made over 300 scarves & hats for the St. Joseph's Food Cellar. She also made lap robes which were given to nursing home residents via Dr. Jean Siddall-Bensson. In 1988 she was a founding member of The Literacy Center, was a secretary, a member of the Board of Directors, and became a literacy tutor for many years. She volunteered at the Attleboro Arts Museum, and the Attleboro Public Library until 2016.
Lorraine leaves her three daughters, Linda St. Pierre, Attleboro, Sharon Ponce (Nefta), Pascoag, RI, Diane Gilberti, Westford, MA, and her two sons, David (Pat) St. Pierre, and Michael (Elizabeth) St. Pierre, both of North Attleboro, and her two daughters in laws, Donna St. Pierre & Michelle Peirce. She was the mother of the late Deacon Lawrence St Pierre and Steven St. Pierre, both of Attleboro. She leaves 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and extended family members. She also leaves her dearest friend from childhood, Elaine (Fallow)Valade, and dear friends Stasia (Kaczowka) Sweeney, and Joanne Milane. She was the sister of the late George E. Bussiere Jr. (Attleboro, MA), Barbara I. (Bussiere) Nugent (CA), and Phillip R. Bussiere (Norwell, MA).
Lorraine was a voracious reader, reading two to four books a week. She loved music, and although she was tone-deaf, she loved to sing. Her artistic side was seen through her crafting, drawing, knitting, painting, and designing May baskets and leaving them on the steps of dear friends. Skilled at sewing, she made numerous outfits over the years for her 7 children and at Christmas, her grandchildren & great-grandchildren received Snowmen dolls and scarves that she made for them. She truly enjoyed Sunday trips with her family to Second Beach in Middletown, RI from the early 50s onward and later summer vacations at Biddeford Pool Beach, ME. Most of all she was happiest when her entire family gathered for celebrations, and holidays, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To quote her, "I have had a wonderful life and have been blessed with a wonderful husband and seven beautiful children".
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Ghost/St. Vincent's de Paul Church, 71 Linden St., Attleboro. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 165 West St, Attleboro.
