- Joseph L. Roger Bussiere, 89, of Exeter and Lewiston-Auburn, Maine, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, from complications of an injury received in March, surrounded by loving family at his home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Monet, Quebec, Canada, to the late Leo and Clara (Cote) Bussiere.
He was married to the former Anabelle L. Giasson of Lewiston, Maine, for 47 years until her death in 1992.
Both he and his wife were longtime, active members of St. Michael's Church in Exeter. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and held a number of positions including Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Association of the Descendants of Jacques Bussiere Inc. based in Quebec.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in New Guinea, the Philippines and Australia.
He retired after a long career in the shoe industry that included helping develop Nike University based in New Hampshire. After retiring, two of his greatest joys were spending time in his wood shop, with many of his creations marketed locally, and working part time for Holloway Motors in Greenland, moving inventory throughout New England.
Mr. Bussiere is survived by two daughters, Celia McGuckian of Auburn, Maine, and Anita Bussiere of Tucson, Ariz.; son Paul Bussiere and daughter-in-law Meredith of Twin Mountain; grandchildren Damien Bussiere, Christian McGuckian and Kirsten Kopp; great-granddaughter Elise Kopp; brother Lionel Bussiere and his wife, Lilianne; sister-in-law Ledeweska Bussiere; brother-in-law Andre Giasson and his wife, Alta; sister-in-law Henriette Bergeron; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and dear friends.
He was predeceased by brothers Angelo, Walter, Conrad (Pete), Nelson and Laurident; and sisters Jeannette Lamontagne and Gilberte Dulac.
SERVICES: A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 9 Lincoln St., Exeter. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the American Legion Emergency Fund, 25 Capital St., Room 431, Concord, NH 03301.
