- AUBURN - Lionel A. Bussiere, 90, of Lewiston passed away Tuesday, March 14, at the Hospice House in Auburn.
He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Cascade, N.H., to Leo and Clara (Cote) Bussiere. He married Lillian (Gagnon) Bussiere on Oct. 14, 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received three Bronze Service Stars for engagements at Tinian, Tarawa and Saipan during World War II.
Lionel was an excellent baker and many years ago owned and operated Buzzy's Bakery on Sabattus Street in Lewiston. He retired from Pioneer Plastics in 1988. After retirement he worked at the Italian Bakery.
Lionel had an ear for music, teaching himself to play the guitar, piano, harmonica and other instruments. He loved fishing, gardening and gallivanting to stores, flea markets, antique shops and bean suppers with Lillian. He was fondly known as Pepere to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 106.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian; and five children, Elaine Bickford and husband, Steve, Theresa Fortin and husband, Tom, Ronald Bussiere and wife, Gail, Patrice Saucier and husband, Dave, and David Bussiere; eight grandchildren, Scott Bickford, Eric Bickford and wife, Marie, Heather O'Connor and husband, Paul, Jonathan Bussiere and fiancée, Jen, Aimee Bussiere, Corey LaFlamme and husband, Mark, Megan Parks and husband, Jason, Travis Saucier and wife, Nicole; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bickford, Kim Bickford, Kyle Bickford, Lauryn Griffey Parks and Mason Parks; brother-in-law, Maurice Lamontagne; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; sons, Gerald and Philip Bussiere; sisters, Gilberte Dulac and Jeannette Lamontagne; brothers, Angelo, Walter, Conrad and Roger.
The family would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers at the Hospice House for the wonderful care they took of Lionel and their kindness and compassion.

BUSSIERE---Lionel A., 90 of Lewiston died March 14, 2017. Visiting hours will be held at Fortin\Lewiston on Tuesday March 21, 2017 from 4-7pm with Navy Military Honors at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Lewiston on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at 11am. Interment will take place at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
