    • The family is sad to announce the passing of Arlene Mae (Hakala) Bussiere of Milford, Michigan on July 14, 2018. Arlene was born June 16, 1939 in Dearborn, Michigan to Matthew and Ellen (Koski) Hakala. She married Larry John Bussiere in 1967 and he predeceased her in 2003. She is also predeceased by parents Matthew and Ellen Hakala, and brother Melvin Hakala.

Through childhood, her family lived in many locations in Michigan and Wisconsin. Arlene graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1957 and Hackley Hospital School of Nursing in 1960.

After graduating from Hackley Hospital, Arlene and two classmates worked in Santa Cruz, CA and Seattle, WA and then went on a 2 month camping adventure in Alaska. They drove home along the Alaskan Highway stopping in Jasper and Banff National Parks in Canada.

After returning home from her adventures, Arlene worked as a nurse at Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where she became the In-service Education Director. After marriage, Arlene and Larry moved to Chassell, MI for a year and she worked at a Hospital in Hancock, Michigan. In 1969 they moved to Milford, Michigan where she began her career at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. First she worked as a regular OB nurse, but was promoted to be a Supervisor of Nursing in OB and Pediatrics. While in that position she served as a secretary of the Detroit Chapter of The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses.

Arlene was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and watched every game on TV. She really didn’t care if they won or lost. Golfing was a passion in her spare time. She golfed in the Women’s Golf League At the Dunham Hills Golf Club in Hartland for a number of seasons. Always trying to improve her game, Arlene spent a week for many summers learning new golf skills with a pro at McGuire’s Golf Resort in Cadillac, MI.

Arlene enjoyed having a monthly lunch with the Red Hat Rowdies of Waterford, MI until her illness made it difficult to continue.

Arlene is survived by a son, Charles Jac Bussiere (Peggy Haley); granddaughter, Caycee Lynn Bussiere (Ryan Canady); sister, Lois Staber; brother, Thomas Hakala (Christie (Jody) Hakala); nephews, John Staber, Paul Staber (Shari Bernstein), Benjamin Hakala, Andrew Hakala, (Chrystal Charlton), Kalle Hakala (Jennifer Bloom); and niece, Marcia Staber (T. Michael Redd, Jr.); great nephews, Travis and Zachary Perna, Wyatt Staber, Samuel Staber; and great nieces, Hannah Perna and Ella Hakala; and very good friend, Pat Cullen.

A memorial service will take place on August 1 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 12701 Highland Road, Hartland, Michigan at 1:00 p.m.
