- Eugene Gene Bussiere, 88, husband of the late Gloria (Abbott) Bussiere, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home at Salisbury Beach on March 14, 2017.
Born in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late Howard V. and Marguerite E. (Hetzel) Bussiere. He was a graduate of Oxford, Maine High School. Gene was a longtime resident of Groveland and Danville, N.H., before moving to Salisbury. A decorated veteran, he served during both World War II and the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Gene was a successful businessman and owner of G & G Finishing, a metal manufacturing company in Danville, N.H. He enjoyed fishing and socializing with his neighborhood friends at the beach. He was a Boston sports fan and loved to watch the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Gene also enjoyed his trips to the casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. He was kind, witty, intelligent and humble. Gene was everything a person is supposed to be. He was a son, brother, husband and a father. He was affectionately known as Papa Geno by his adopted family. He will be sorely missed and will be thought of daily. Surviving him is the Hayden Phelps family of Westbrook, Maine; a special grandniece, Jessica Phelps; his adopted family, Thomas A. and Debra L. Gagne of Salisbury; Joshua and Allison Gagne of Haverhill; Adam and Katie Gagne of Westford, Mass.; and Philip and Amanda Gagne of Haverhill; and the loves of his life, his seven great-grandchildren; his close friends, Frank Iuele, Don Aimaro, and Cliff Benoit. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Deborah; siblings, Howard V. Bussiere, Jr., Frank E. Bussiere, Millicent Fernald, Muriel Melbye and Dorothy Davis.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, March 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
