- BARRE - Roland J. Bussiere (Cutchie), 73, died unexpectedly Jan. 27, 2009, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington. Born in Colchester, Jan. 6, 1936, he was the son of Emile and Yvonne (Chouinard) Bussiere.
Roland knew many people in the city of Winooski where he lived with his sister, Lorraine after the passing of his mother. He also had many friends in the Barre area after having lived with his sister Mary Jane Martin and her husband, Arnold. More recently Roland has been a resident of Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
Despite the extreme limitations of cerebral palsy that he was born with, and that left him crippled and non-verbal he was able to make and nourish friendships. Roland learned to paint in oils under the tutelage of Dale Aylwin, which led to several public showings of his work. He sold some paintings and gave many to friends.
He was predeceased by his mother Yvonne, his father, Emile, his brother, Emile, Jr., his sister, Lorraine, and his nephew, Robert Bussiere. He is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Martin, and her husband Arnold and also numerous nephews and neices.
The family extends good wishes and much gratitude to the staff at Woodridge Nursing Home, to the medical staff at Central Vermont Hospital, to the medical staff at Fletcher Allen Medical Center and to the Visiting Nurses Association.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in St. Stephens Cemetery in Colchester in the spring at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with La Vigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski.
