- PAINESDALE - Joseph B. Bussiere, 83, a former resident of Painesdale, passed away Wednesday morning, October 15, 2014, at the Delaware House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past two years.
He was born on April 6, 1931, in Chassell, a son of the late Edward and Rose (Golden) Bussiere. Joe attended the Chassell Schools.
On September 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Maila A. Makela. The couple had resided in Lower Pewabic, Port Hope, Michigan, Donken and since 1972 had made their home in Painesdale, where Joe had resided until becoming a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility. On September 9, 2010, Maila preceded him in death.
Mr. Bussiere had retired from the White Pine Copper mine as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and also worked for Otto Bloom Contracting as a mechanic.
Joseph was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range. He also enjoyed working on cars and trucks in the garage and on different project at the South Range Machine Shop.
Preceding him death were his wife; his grandson, Dean Cherubini; his parents; his brothers and sisters, Joseph Leonard Bussiere, Mary Ann O'Neill, Joseph Eli Bussiere, Lawrence John Bussiere, Dorothy Huhtala, Eleanor Armstrong, Joseph Albert Bussiere and Elmer Arthur Bussiere.
Surviving are his children, Connie Cherubini of Sagola, Robert (Judy) Bussiere of Crete, Illinois, Jeffrey (Debra) Bussiere of Stambaugh, Michigan, Michael (Pauline) Bussiere of Iron Mountain, Teri (Rebekah) Bussiere of Green Bay, Scott (Kelly) Bussiere of Painesdale, Lisa (Tracy) Hunter of Crystal Falls; 18 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial mass for Joseph will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church of South Range with Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
