- LEWISTON - Richard L. Bussiere, 68, of Lewiston, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 3, with his family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 6, 1939, a son of the late Leo and Leonie (Lebel) Bussiere. He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High in 1957, then went on to join the Army National Guard. He was called to duty for one year and he remained in the National Guard until being honorably discharged in 1967.
Upon returning from the Army, he began a career at International Paper as a machine operator, working there for more than 30 years, except during the time of a labor dispute where he went to work for B.I.W. for a short period of time.
In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, especially if it involved camping, hunting, fishing or golfing. You could often find him playing cards, especially cribbage with friends and family. Richard, known as Dick by most people who knew him, was a very kind-hearted person always willing to lend his hand. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. He was a member of the Le Montagnard Social Club and also an active member of the Pine Tree Gypsies.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claudette (Bourque); a daughter, Sandra Bardier, and companion, James Landry, of Lewiston; a son, Mark Bussiere, and companion, Herminia White, of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren, Aaron Bardier and Amber Landry of Lewiston; a sister, Linda Beaulieu, and husband, Marc, of Lewiston; two brothers, Raymond, and wife, Pauline, of Canton and George, and wife, Carol, of Lewiston; and a sister-in-law, Constance Bussiere of Auburn.
He was predeceased by a son, Andre Bussiere in 1981; and a brother, Robert Bussiere.
